Professional evaluation data interpretation: PVC knife scraping coating film materials for building structures


This product adopts a knife scraping coating process, in which liquid PVC slurry is coated with high-strength polyester base fabric through multiple passes of scraping (vertical coating, secondary coating, tertiary coating). Professional evaluation data shows that its tensile strength in the warp/weft direction can reach 2500-3500N/5cm or more, and its tear strength is ≥ 400N, ensuring the mechanical stability of large-span building structures. Peel strength ≥ 80N/5cm (DIN 53357), ensuring that the coating does not delaminate under high-frequency wind pressure loads. The material has a temperature resistance range of -30 ℃ to+70 ℃, a light fastness of ≥ 6 levels, and a strength retention rate of>85% after 1500-2500 hours of artificial accelerated aging testing. By obtaining EN 13501 B1 level or NFPA 701 flame retardant certification, we provide safe and reliable membrane structure solutions for permanent buildings such as sports venues and exhibition centers.


Guidelines for selecting PVC knife coated fabrics for building membrane structures

1. Selection of strength grade and base fabric specifications
Match the corresponding strength grade based on the building span and design load. For large sports venues, exhibition centers, and other projects, it is recommended to choose high-strength (V-grade) membrane materials - the tensile strength should be ≥ 8000N/5cm or more; Commercial sunshades and other light load scenarios can be selected at levels III-IV. High strength base fabric should meet the requirement of uniform warp/weft density, and it is best to use industrial silk with a density of 1000D or above.
2. Verification of core mechanical performance indicators
The third-party testing report of the product must be verified: the tensile strength (DIN 53354) and tear strength (DIN 53363) jointly determine the ability to resist wind and snow. Long term outdoor use requires a tear strength of ≥ 800N and a peel strength of ≥ 100N/5cm (DIN 53357) to ensure that the coating does not delaminate under high-frequency wind pressure. PVDF surface treatment can improve self-cleaning and anti-aging ability.
3. Verification of weather resistance and combustion performance
Request to provide QUV accelerated aging (≥ 3000 hours) and temperature change test (-30 ℃ to+70 ℃) reports. Public places must pass DIN 4102 B1 level or NFPA 701 flame retardant certification and self extinguish upon ignition. Optional anti fungal treatment to extend the service life in humid and hot environments. Request sample fabric for actual testing before bulk procurement.

Q: How many years did the large-scale sports stadium project take? Will there be delamination or water leakage at the seams?
Answer: After more than five years of use, the high-frequency welding joints are as good as new and have never leaked water. This material has high peel strength, and the knife scraping process allows the coating and base fabric to deeply interlock, unlike ordinary coated fabrics that are prone to peeling and delamination over time. I have previously inspected an eight year old project, and the membrane surface is still flat, and the weld seam cannot be easily removed by hand.
Q: Will long-term outdoor use cause brittleness or aging? How about UV resistance?
Answer: Speak based on the aging test report. We requested QUV 3000 hour aging data before purchasing the project, and the strength retention rate did meet the standard. I actually used it for three summers, and the color of the film surface remained basically unchanged. It was still flexible when pressed by hand, and there was no powdering or cracking. The ordinary tarpaulin used in southern construction sites becomes brittle after six months, while this knife scraping cloth has significantly higher weather resistance.
Q: Will there be water seepage on the roof during heavy rain? Does PVDF self-cleaning layer really work?
Answer: No dripping, the weld bead is even stronger than the base cloth. The most satisfactory thing is the PVDF self-cleaning layer, which has been used for two years and can easily remove dust and dirt, unlike the acrylic coated membrane material next to it that is already covered in dust and cannot be wiped off. Easy to maintain, it's like an automatic car wash when it rains, reducing the frequency of manual cleaning significantly.
